Among the many attractive qualities of modern roses is their tendency to stage an impressive second bloom in late August/early September. The profusion of buds across the Formal Rose Garden at the Columbus Park of Roses would seem to indicate we’re in for a real show! The Formal Rose Garden comprises seven acres of approximately 11,000 roses — primarily hybrid teas. Ten new or replacement rose bed plantings add to the anticipation of a colorful display beginning yet this month with blooms continuing into late October.
Strolling through the Formal Rose Garden is pleasant any time of day. If possible, plan your visit for early morning or early evening. In the diffuse light, the roses seem to glow. The soothing sounds of the garden’s restored 1957 fountain further set the mood for a memorable experience.
Once you’ve admired the Formal Rose Garden, enjoy the ever-changing plantings of the Perennial, Herb, Earth-Kind and Heritage Gardens, as well as the garden’s accredited arboretum specimens.
