Some things are worth repeating. The second big bloom of roses in the garden is underway now and will last into mid-October. You can download this year’s list of 487 rose varieties. The herb and perennial gardens deserve a second look as summer fades into autumn. The Columbus Park of Roses continues to be a place to visit and stroll throughout the year, especially when the shrubs and trees begin to put on their fall colors.
The park was recently recognized as a Level 1 arboretum. Columbus Recreation and Parks Department Forestry Division applied for accreditation through Arbnet, the international network that accredits arboreta around the world. Arbnet works to share knowledge, experience and resources to raise awareness of the important role trees and shrubs fill in public spaces. Columbus Recreation and Parks Department also has a web page on the park.
The garden staff has added many specimens of woody plants in the last few years, adding to the year round diversity of color and flowers within the park. You can download a list of the trees and shrubs in the park.
The Park of Roses was named “2016 Best City Park” by not one but two local publications: Columbus Monthly magazine and Columbus Alive newspaper. And it was rated 9th out of 25 top things
to do in Columbus by The Crazy Tourist blog.
The date of the annual fall cutback will be announced in this site and local papers in mid-October. This half day event is open to the public, and people are encouraged to help staff and volunteers with this end of the season task.
