The raised bed of annuals just east of the shelterhouse patio is fun to watch as it fills out over the growing season. Each spring, the CPOR garden supervisor designs a dramatic combination of plant colors and shapes to greet visitors. Garden volunteers assisted with this year’s planting on May 9.

The 2023 floral selection includes five plants, most which have a mounding characteristic and are low maintenance. They do not have to be deadheaded in order to continue to flower. You will see:

Ray Pistachio Cream Petunia which has large flowers and greenish in color.

Salgoon Lake Baikal Salvia which is a friend to pollinators and hummingbirds. In fact, a hummingbird was spotted this week sampling the nectar. This plant has many branches and the flowers are long lasting.

Babywing Bicolor Begonia brings some color to the group with its orangish hue. This plant is also heat tolerant and mounds.

In addition, Diamond Frost White Euphorbia and Compact Deep Red Sunpatiens, respectively, add airiness and vibrancy to the design!

Be sure to follow their development as the season progresses. As annuals, they will continue to bloom all summer until the first hard frost. Enjoy!
